The Art Curriculum is designed to allow students exploration in both the Fine Arts and Crafts. Students will gain experience in drawing with various media, painting, ceramics, collage, sculpture, weaving and stitchery. Art is vital in the development of fine and gross motor control, creative problem solving skills, as well as concrete and abstract thought processes. The Art Curriculum is aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and the National Art Standards. Students will become knowledgeable about the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design and how to incorporate them successfully in their own artwork. Art History, Art Criticism are included in instruction. Art is an excellent avenue for integration with the core disciplines, and many lessons will facilitate literacy through reading, writing about art. Math concepts may be incorporated in art lessons as well.
